Pastor's Ponderings
|
The Mountain View I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where
does my help come? March 2005 Pastor's Ponderings....Scouting news In the early 1900's a man from England put his new Rolls-Royce on a boat and went across the waters to the Continent to go on a holiday. While he was driving around Europe, he had a problem with the motor of his new car. He cabled the Rolls-Royce pole back in England and asked, "I'm having trouble with my car; what do you suggest I do?" The Rolls-Royce people flew a mechanic over. The mechanic repaired the car and flew back to England and left the man to continue his holiday. Soon, however, the poor bloke wondered, "How much is this going to cost me?" So when he got back to England, he wrote Rolls-Royce a letter and asked how much he owed them. He received a letter from the office that read: "Dear Sir: There is no record anywhere in our files that anything has ever gone wrong with a Rolls-Royce." That's justification! We are seen as justified and righteous in the eyes of God, not because of anything we have done, but because of the awesome gift of Jesus Christ whom God sent to us... across oceans of universe. Thank God we don't get what we deserve! We receive far better. Romans 3:22-24. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Yours in Christ's Service, We would like people to bring lilies to decorate the sanctuary Easter Sunday. We will have a sign-up sheet and you may designate the lily as given in honor or memory of someone. This will be printed in the bulletin on Easter Sunday. Also we will have tags that you can put on the lily itself. The lilies may be brought to church the week of Easter Sunday. Friday, March 11, 7 p.m. We will be showing the movie "The Passion of the Christ." Everyone is invited, however remember that this movie is rated R. Holy Week Schedule: PALM SUNDAY, March 20

REFLECTIONS ANOTHER CRISIS? 1 Thess. 4:13, Matt. 28:1-10, Mark 1:1-6, Luke 24:1-8 Henry Kissinger is quoted as having said, "Next week there can't be any crisis. My schedule is already full." Mary Magdalene had been through a very difficult time. She and her friends had gone through the terrifying experience of watching the one they loved and looked on as their leader die a horrendous death on the cross. They had undergone a crisis that had shaken the very foundations of their beliefs and hopes. Now, early in the morning, before anything else could happen to their day, they were hurrying to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus with spices. It was a moment of shock and awe when they discovered that not only was the tomb open, but the body of Jesus was missing. This was the first day of the week, it was early in the morning, after the crisis of the past week, what else could happen to disrupt their lives? Can you imagine the confusion and dismay they must have been feeling? Their whole world had been turned upside down. Where were all the promises, the hope and the plans they had for the future? The crisis of the moment caused them to lose sight of the bigger picture. What they saw as a final blow to all their hopes and dreams was actually the fulfillment of God's greater plan. While standing there in a state of confusion and shock, an angel came and asked, "Why are you looking for a dead body? He is alive! Go tell the others he is risen as he promised." They ran, breathless and excited to tell the others the good news. This was not a crisis, this was the fulfillment of a promise. Jesus lives! He lives today! THE GOOD NEWS FOR ALL TIME! Peace,

Matthew 28:20b The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) brings relief when a catastrophe strikes. We rush with aid to disaster areas all over the world. Along with providing food, clothing, shelter and medical help, however, we stay to help survivors rebuild lives. That's how United Methodists respond to God's love. From re-educating soldiers to feeding schoolchildren to establishing medical clinics in remote villages, we represent hope for millions in nearly 100 of the poorest countries in the world. Such works of recovery and life-changing ministry don't happen without the broad support of congregations and individuals. Once a year, during One Great Hour of Sharing, you can join other United Methodists worldwide by giving a special offering to support this humanitarian aid from UMCOR. You can ensure that when catastrophes cause suffering, your church will be in the lead to ease the pain. SOUPER BOWL UPDATE On Super Bowl Sunday, the youth stood outside the sanctuary doors and held out soup pots for your donations to help feed the poor. $279.42 was raised and given to Crossroads Urban Center. Thanks you!!! Due Dates
