I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven on Earth.

TREASURES OF THE NILE

Sixty kids and thirty helpers shared a great adventure during our Vacation Bible School, which we hosted with Trinity UMC. It was lots of fun working together. The kids heard Bible stories, made creative crafts, sang fun songs, played cool games, ate delicious snacks and learned about the greatest treasure of all – Jesus. We also had a mission project: help the food pantry at Crossroads Urban Center. Over 130 food items were brought in!!

Thank you so much to all the teachers, helpers, and people who donated money, food and supplies to make this week a success. Thanks!!! Nancy Peralez

PLEASE HELP FEED THE HUNGRY

Everyone interested in helping with an effort to feed the hungry of our community is invited to help make sandwiches. We have committed to providing 300 sandwiches on the third Saturday of each month. To do this we need about seven or more volunteers to make about 40 sandwiches each. You can make them at home and bring them to the church or join us for a sandwich-making party the third Friday night of each month. We could also use volunteers to help deliver the sandwiches and/or serve on our Saturday. To find out more and express your interest in helping with this effort, please call Peggy Porter at 849-0814.

You Are Invited...
Dinner for Eight

It's time to start new groups for the Dinner for Eight. If you would like to be included, please sign up on the list in the church foyer or call the office. The groups meet once a month at different houses and everyone brings part of the dinner. It's a fun way to get to know one another better.

Youth News

July was a busy month for our youth group. We started out with a service project after church on the 2nd. We had about 12 youth in attendance and weeded the islands of the church parking lot and some of the flower beds. All the youth jumped right in and worked hard at it. A few of the youth dug out around the tree rings to set them in place also. The weeds grow fast, but the islands looked great after they were done!

On July 9th, we went to the Jordan River Parkway. One group rollerbladed and the other walked. We also fed the ducks while we were there. A big THANKS to Lynn Fillingim for spending her evening with us to help supervise our outing.

On the 13th during Sunday School time, we had a cake auction to raise money for our youth accounts. Thanks again to all who donated money, bought baked goods, brought baked goods, and to Mitch Lambdin who was our auctioneer. We raised over $1,000!!

Luke Peralez prepared a Bible lesson on the 16th for us. The topic was "Gossip," and he had several appropriate Bible verses pertaining to the subject. THANKS for sharing those with us, Luke. They helped to reinforce an earlier discussion on the same topic with some different verses. Afterwards, there was a very exhausting game of "Steal the Flag" using paper napkins.

On the 23rd, we planned for August (see the schedule below) and practiced a skit that will be presented at the August 6th service. We hope you can be there to see it. It is called "Caveheart!" Melissa, Nicole and Whitney flew to Knoxville, Tennessee to attend Youth 2003 with Patty. They will be reporting on their trip and what they learned at the July 30th youth meeting. Shane will also tell us what he learned at Conference! We look forward to what they have to share.

Our August schedule is as follows:

August 6 Perform "Caveheart" skit for Wednesday Service
followed by a PIZZA PARTY!!
August 13 Miniature Golf at Milligan's
Cost is $5 for 11 and under; $6 for 12 and up
August 20 Planning Meeting, Games, and Bible Lesson
August 27 A "Yet to Be Decided" Service Project!

All youth in grades 6-12 are welcome to attend Youth Group on Wednesday nights from 7-8 p.m.

We are looking for adult leaders to help out with Youth Group starting in the fall. If you are interested, please call Patty Lambdin at 566-3697 or Pastor Steve Reinhard at 280-4148.

Thank You!

The Youth Group wishes to thank everyone for their support with a very successful Cake Auction that took place on July 13th. Thank you to the Sunday School teachers who gave up their class time so we could hold the auction. Thank you to all the people who make baked goods to sell, to those who donated money, to Mitch Lambdin for being our auctioneer, and to all of you who bought the baked goods.

Your generous support earned the Youth Group a grand total of $1,063.50!! We appreciate the opportunity to raise money for our activities with your support.
